War of Dust
After the eruption of the volcano of Kaeros Isle the skies were left black and desolate for 30 years. After 5 years of these bleak conditions the human empire was falling into decline due to famine and lack of resources. Even so, they knew that if they were to survive they would need to acquire supplies for their people. Thus began the War of Dust; Jarthom Hartford, a local lord, invaded elvish lands believing that they would have the supplies that the empire needed to help their people. With masterful military strategy he was able to drive back the elves from their ancestral homes and acquire food and supplies for his people. Hartford won victory after victory and was crowned king of the people after 10 years of battle. Finally he was brought down by an arrow while he was leading a charge on the elves.
The elven kingdom saw Hartford’s death as an opportunity to bargain with the empire and Hartford’s son brought about a deal that would not be forgotten for many years to come. The elves agreed to give up the secret of magic so that the empire would be able to provide for itself in this time of ash and misery, and in exchange the empire would withdraw from the elven lands and end the fighting on all fronts. This was an unpopular decision among the elves and dwarves whom the elves had shared magic with long before. However Aelar felt that it was necessary. Racism still ran rampant among many humans though since the elves had kept magic to themselves for so long and watched the human empire suffer for so many years.
